Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, San Salvador– todo lo mismo chorizo someone insisted while being out on a lengthy ride. Which translates to same sausage. After riding for months across Central America and pretty much chewing my way to the top, I felt like it’s time to try something else. ENCHILADAS!!!
Thinking of Central America most „Gringos“ would probably refer first to Mexico, right? But why is that?
Well Mexicans definitely set themselves apart from the bunch by simply outnumbering the rest of Central America with 119 millions Aztecas spread across the country. And a staggering 28 millions!! in MXCD only. Also there is much loved exports like Tacos, From Dusk Till Dawn, Selma Hayek, cactus and ehhh drugs. Yeah and there is SPRING BREAK too!!
But apart from these stereotypes and comida rapida what else is there to find in a country which everyone seems to know but hardly anyone travels thoroughly …
Well, to start with there is Frida Kahlo and the enigmatic Diego Rivera. And their former residence simply just gives you the goosebumps like in the picture above!
Mexico has a history so rich and diverse it just leaves you bedazzled!!
Tons of pyramids, temples and sculptures scattered all over the place …
… and on top of that there is ehhh … more pyramids.
A Mexican roadtrip without a handful of mariachis serenading you … counts indeed for nothing!
How about not falling for a sombrero? Difficult! I have two.
What the holi festival is for Indians, is Dia de los muertos for Mexicans. And getting your catrina the bearded way is something that sticks with you … FOR REAL!
And haven’t we all dreamed about our very own Mexican wedding? Yeah we did.
And of course there is hippos too … NO THERE ISN’T!!!
Running the risk of taking in breathtaking views that simply give you the chills? Definitely!
So plenty of reasons to make the long awaited transition from chorizos to enchiladas … and to get married!
