Okay here we go … it has definitely been one of the most anticipated blog entries of the whole trip … so now is the time to get the job done. THE MEGA COLOMBIA POST!!!!
So how was Colombia treating me in general and how do Colombians respond to people cycling across their country???
One of the most astonishing things in Colombia was the fact that Colombians know what we are actually doing! Yes, of course cycling! But they have an understanding of the physical and mental effort which comes with it. So a lot of times people would come up to my bike and check the components, brand etc. and ask how many kilometers I am doing. So in general there is an omnipresent understanding of cycling.
But how would CoLoMbIaNs greet me in general?
WELL, a lot of times they would just tuck along with the common „GRINGO„… and we all know what that means!
BUT more often they would simply call out „NAIRO“ … and we all know what that means too!
THEREFORE running into a big bunch of cyclists is so common here that at times I didn’t feel special anymore … which was a HUGE blow to my EGO!
There were a lot of talks about the MEGA CLIMBS in Colombia and everyone walked up to me and was like „Did you do La Linea???“ But the truth is there is a much BIGGER challenge when cycling across Colombia – the great VIEWS!!!
BUT … just to set the record straight my MAIN OBJECTIVE was always to cycle – so no worries!!!
SPEAKING of objectives who would have thought on DAY 2 back in February 2016 in Tierra del Fuego …
That one year on … things would look like THIS ?!?!?!!?!?!?!
emm … or even like THIS!!!
FOOD was again a big theme and from Guinea Pigs to …
BANANAS we were once again downing pretty much everything along the way … even …
… even FOAM!!!
After so much eating and climbing and POSING there was finally time to …
RELAX as well!!!
